What to wear to your Digital/Polaroid Session: A model's guide

Guides
As a model, your digitals (or “polaroids”) are an essential part of your portfolio. These unretouched, natural images allow agencies and clients to see your raw beauty and versatility without distractions.

1. Keep it Simple and Neutral

The goal of digitals is to showcase you, not your outfit. Stick to neutral colors like white, black, gray, or beige. Avoid busy patterns, logos, or bright colors, as these can draw attention away from your natural features. Solid-colored clothing works best because it lets your skin tone, face, and body lines stand out clearly.

2. Form-Fitting Outfits

Wear form-fitting clothes that highlight your figure but don’t constrict your movement. A simple tank top or t-shirt paired with skinny jeans or leggings is ideal. These show your body shape in a natural way and allow agencies to visualize you in a variety of looks.

3. No Heavy Accessories

Skip the accessories! No jewelry, hats, or large hairpieces. The goal is to keep everything clean and distraction-free so that all attention is on you.

4. Natural Hair and Makeup

Your hair and makeup should look as close to your natural self as possible. Avoid heavy makeup or intricate hairstyles. A little concealer, light foundation, or mascara is okay if you want to even out your complexion or enhance your eyes, but remember that the agencies want to see the real you! For hair, make sure it’s clean and neatly styled in a way that shows your face clearly.

5. Barefoot or Simple Shoes

For full-body shots, it’s okay to go barefoot, especially if you’re taking the photos indoors. If you prefer shoes, stick to simple footwear that doesn’t take attention away from your overall look. Nude or black heels (for women) or simple neutral sneakers (for men) can work well.

6. Confidence is Key!

Most importantly, bring your confidence to the session! While the focus is on showing your natural beauty, your personality should still shine through in these photos. A positive attitude and feeling comfortable in your skin will go a long way.

At Wiley Image, we strive to make your digitals session relaxed and empowering. By following these tips, you’ll have everything you need to create clean, polished, and professional images that truly reflect who you are.
